May 3, 1973 Mr. Teodorico Rivera 1690-A Kalahi St. Punta, Sta. Ana Manila S i r : In reply to your letter dated March 30, 1973, I have the honor to inform you that the amounts of P17,156.89 and P18,619.67 which you received on November 15, 1969 and January 15, 1970, respectively, are exempt from all taxes considering that the said amounts were paid to you as retirement benefits from the Philippine Match Company, Ltd. Employee's Provident Fund, the qualification of which as a tax-exempt retirement benefit plan under Republic Act No. 4917 as amplified by Revenue Regulations No. 1-68 has been determined and approved by this Office on September 10, 1969; that you retired at the age of fifty nine (59) years and after having served your employer, the Philippine Match Company, Ltd. for a continuous period of twenty three (23) years.
