Box 127 Manila S i r : In reply to your letter dated September 18, 1969, I have the honor to inform you that there being no additional amount loaned in the amendment to the mortgage contract but only an additional collateral as security to the original loan, no documentary stamp tax is due thereon pursuant to Section 232 of the Tax Code. However, the acknowledgment is subject to the 30-centavo documentary stamp tax prescribed in Section 225 of the same Code and an equivalent amount of science stamp imposed under Republic Act No. 5448.
